Younger Holden Brother Also Leaves Houston For Europe

Those hoping to see at least one member of the Holden family donning a Houston Dynamo jersey during the 2010 MLS season are officially out of luck. Euan Holden, the younger brother of Stuart and a fourth-round pick of the Dynamo in this year’s draft, has signed a 1-year deal with Danish side Vejle Boldklub according to a story on the club’s official website.

“Euan Holden is a young and very promising player who has the qualities we’re looking for right now,” said Vejle head coach Mats Gren. “He is strong, quick and has the will to want to develop. Meanwhile, a big plus is that he is an all-around player who can cover several positions.”

Holden, 22, started his collegiate career with the University of Connecticut, playing in 36 games over two years before transferring to the University of New Mexico prior to his junior year. During his senior season, he appeared in 19 of the Lobos’ 20 games (all starts), notching two assists and helping their defense post a 0.92 goals-against-average.

“[Euan] has dealt with a lot of adversity throughout his college career and things really came together for him in his senior year,” said New Mexico head coach Jeremy Fishbein. “He has the potential to have a great playing career in either America or Europe. He has a Scottish passport, which affords him a lot of opportunities that many American players don’t have.”
