The Colorado Rapids have traded midfielder Jacob Peterson to Toronto FC in exchange for allocation money, the team announced today.“This is a player that Preki has been wanting for some time,” said TFC general manager Mo Johnston. “We’re looking forward to bringing him into camp and getting him working with the rest of the players.”
Peterson, 23, was originally selected by Colorado with the 21st-overall pick in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft. He has appeared in 92 games for the Rapids over the past four seasons, scoring eight goals and adding five assists.
“I think the trade certainly offers us an opportunity to go into the league and strengthen the group to give the team some depth and hopefully some experience and some quality,” said Rapids head coach Gary Smith. “Jake Peterson has had a fantastic 4-5 years here, he’s shown tremendous potential. A lot of my reasons behind the deal revolve around the bodies in front of him and more so than anything else, the opportunity that this gives Jake to maybe nail down a position, at this stage of his career, is very important.”
