Former U.S. international Eric Wynalda has boldly predicted that South Africa and France will be the two teams advancing from Group A at next summer's FIFA World Cup while CONCACAF rivals Mexico will be sent packing. In comments made on Monday's episode of Fox Football Fone-In, the American legend even went so far as to predict that the 2010 host nation will be standing atop the pile when the group stage is complete."I actually think that they're gonna surprise some people. I think that [South Africa head coach Carlos Parreira] will have this team prepared. They will be difficult to beat; they'll have a little bit of flair. I see them getting out of this group, I see France joining them and I see big trouble for Mexico.
"I could actually under these circumstances - and this might sound crazy - see South Africa winning the group. That is very possible. Carlos Parreira knows exactly what to do... he will get a little bit extra out of the average player. He's gonna get blood out of a rock."
Wynalda, who represented the United States during three World Cups ('90, '94 and '98) and scored 34 goals in 106 appearances, said Mexico's biggest fault is not a lack of talent, but rather leadership.
"I think [Mexico] has weapons. But is this a team that's really going to, at the end of the day, be able to match up or stack up against some of the better teams? I don't see them getting out of the group, I really don't. They've got a team that looks like they've been overperforming already."
