Unstoppable Beasley Nets Goal In Rangers Win

DaMarcus Beasley's remarkable return to form continued on Tuesday as the American winger scored the winning goal for Rangers in their 3-0 victory over Dundee United. His 26th minute strike - Beasley's first goal for Rangers since May 2008 - vaulted the club to the top of the Scottish Premier League standings, one point ahead of rivals Celtic.

From the club's official website:

"The fixture was full of positives for Ibrox boss Walter Smith as his side registered their third-straight SPL win thanks to a moment of genius from DaMarcus Beasley. The American continued his recent good form and capped it with a stunning strike that will surely be a contender for Goal of the Season in May.

"Cutting in from the right wing, the American opted to go himself and curled a wonderful left-footed shot high past Weaver, leaving the Utd keeper with no chance. It was just reward for another performance full of improvement from the US star."

The 27-year-old US international looked dangerous throughout the match and set up teammate Kenny Miller for the team's third and final goal before being taken off in the 83rd minute. Fans voting on SkySports' website gave Beasley the highest rating of any player in the game, 9.2 out of a possible 10.

It was the third consecutive strong outing for Beasley, who was at one-time a mainstay on the US Men's National Team but was left out of the country's final World Cup Qualifiers because of a dip in form widely attributed to his lack of playing time with Rangers. The pressure for Beasley to get back into the squad ahead of the 2010 World Cup led him to publicly appeal last week through the media for either more playing time or to be transferred.

If he can continue to raise his play with the Scottish club, Beasley will be creating a hard decision for US coach Bob Bradley, who has seen Landon Donovan thrive in his new spot on the left side of midfield - Beasley's normal position.

Myself and many other Rangers fans are very pleased at Beasley's strong performance tonight. Beasley incurred a bad knee injury when playing VFB Stuttgart in European-level competition some time ago, and toiled for quite a while after that.

He has worked hard and has recently came back into first-team action, and has gave a very good account of himself. He was very good in technical and physical terms tonight. Well pleased for him.

A good shift by DaMarcus tonight, his overall play was just what Rangers have been missing for long spells of this season. Long may it continue! Chris, Scotland

The last two games are the best I've seen from Mr B. Long may it continue! If he can keep this up then he can finally earn his pay at Gers and help us retain the title. I know he's had a few injury probs but it can be frustrating when you see the effect a potential world cup place has on a player who has been under-achieving! That said, I hope he stays and has a great Gers career. USA will certainly benefit from a DaMarcus in that sort of form. I know I'll be cheering them on! :)

He's struggled with various injuries for the last season or so, but seeing him come back into the Rangers squad and perform as well as he did last night and at the weekend at Ibrox is an absolute joy. He's always had some in there real class in there & we've seen it several times since we signed him from PSV, but not often enough even when you take his injury troubles into account. If he can keep up this sort of form & stay free from serious injury, then you'd have to say that he just might well be on the best form of his career coincidentally only months away from the World Cup. Rangers fans won't be complaining that the World Cup is his newly found motivation if he helps us retain the SPL title though, so keep it up DaMarcus!! ;)
