* The Scotland Herald has an in-depth piece on former Houston Dynamo forward Paul Dalglish, who has been named head coach of the North American Soccer League's Tampa Bay Rowdies. The son of former Scottish international Kenny Dalglish, Paul appeared in 15 games for the Dynamo in 2006-07, scoring four goals for the club.
* Chicago Fire technical director Frank Klopas confirms that he has talked to either New York Red Bulls interim head coach Richie Williams or RSL assistant Robin Fraser about his club's head coaching vacancy. But he disputes a report by the Washington Post's Steven Goff that the club has contacted both men, saying the team has interviewed "one of the two". No word on whether or not Klopas has talked to Eric Wynalda recently.
* Former Toronto FC head coach John Carver has finally turned up after abruptly leaving the club last April. His new role? Assisting former New England Revolution assistant Paul Mariner in his new role as head coach of Plymouth Argyle.
* Jurgen Klinsmann has announced plans to move his family back to the United States following a failed stint as head coach of Bayern Munich, saying he wants his children to be able to go back to school where they grew up. With New York, Chicago and D.C. United all still without a head coach, it's only a matter of time before Klinsmann's name gets mentioned in connection with the current openings.
A few non-coaching updates to pass along...
* DC United has officially acquired the rights to Tiyi Shipalane from USL-2's Harrisburg City Islanders. The 24-year-old midfielder appeared in three CONCACAF Champions League matches for DC last season.
* Speaking of DC, if Kwajalein Atoll (population: less than 1,000) is ever tapped for expansion by Major League Soccer, expect United defender and free-kick specialist Marc Burch to be first in line to sign up.
* Groundbreaking on the Kansas City Wizards' new stadium may not happen in 2009 after all, despite an earlier prediction by team CEO Rob Heineman that construction would start on the 18,500-seat facility by the end of the year "unless the world falls apart". The club had hoped to have their new home ready for the start of the 2011 season, but that timeline now appears to be in doubt.
