A report making its way around the Internet this morning claims that the New York Red Bulls are set to hire former Arsenal great Tony Adams as their next head coach.Adams, 43, boasts an extensive resume as a player. He appeared in 504 games for The Gunners between 1983-2002 - winning four top-flight championships in that span - and also earned 66 caps with England from the late '80s up until the year 2000. Adams played alongside Thierry Henry for some time at Arsenal and the two are said to have a good relationship, leading some to believe Red Bull might hire Adams as a way of getting their foot in the door with the Barcelona forward, a player who has long been seen as a potential target for the club.
Following the end of his playing career, Adams turned to managing. His first gig was not exactly a successful one, as he oversaw the relegation of Wycombe Wanderers to League Two during the 2003/2004 season. He spent one calendar year in charge, leading the club to a 12-20-21 record before moving on.
In October 2008, Adams was elevated to the top post from his role as assistant with Portsmouth in the English Premier League when Harry Redknapp moved to Tottenham. His second stint would go about as well as the first, however, as Adams was sacked less than four months into the job, his team posting a 4-11-7 record during his time in charge.

why would the red bull hire him he seems to fail as a coach so far
While I can't speak to his success at Wycombe, at Pompey, there seem to be much bigger problems than simply Adams and his success. I'd love to see him managing in the MLS, he's quite a character.
4:57 PM Anonymous was exactly right! Pompey are always going to be better then the second division, but struggle to stay near the middle of the top flight - Its the economics of the Premiership where plenty of teams make inroads towards the top: Aston Villa, Everton, Bolton, but NONE can manage consistency over the course of 4 or 5 years (outside of the Big 5). The game in MLS is completely different and though the rewards of success in MLS usually follow experience there, the league is SO YOUNG that ANYTHING can still happen. I think IF New York really commits to a visionary style and team with Adams and with support from MLS veterans, they will turn the corner and BE SUCCESSFUL! Henry would be exciting and the City that never sleeps DESERVES to have EXCITEMENT on the pitch and a reason to look beyond how everyone else does it. Many a good coach has bad stints in his early career - if The Red Bulls work hard as a team from the FO down they will find success! It will take time BUT THEY HAVE BUILT IT so.....
its simple new york are in turmoil and tony adams isnt the answer, they need a proven manager in the MLS
