Landon Donovan To Everton?

Everton manager David Moyes has his eye on Landon Donovan and has reportedly approached the Los Angeles Galaxy about a potential winter loan deal for the 2009 MLS MVP, according to reports out of England this afternoon. The two sides are said to be negotiating the specifics of the deal which would see Donovan stay on with Everton through the remainder of the English Premier League season in May. Under such an arrangement, he would return to the Galaxy after the 2010 World Cup next summer.

Moyes' hope is that Donovan will be able to provide an attacking element that has been absent from Everton's game during the first half of the EPL season. While the club was in contention for a Champions League spot last year, they now found themselves at the other end of the table, just three points separating them from the relegation zone.

By acquiring Donovan on loan, Everton would be adding a world-class player to help them climb out of the hole without having to shell out an expensive transfer fee to Major League Soccer. For Donovan, it would be another chance to showcase himself on the biggest of stages and would also enable the United States' all-time leading goalscorer to hone his craft in what is regarded as one of the best leagues in the world.

Think this is a good move for Donovan?

i think so... it would give him some match ups against players he'll face in the first game of the WC... that cant be bad

Hi Im an everton fan, is he any good? The EPL is probably the best in the world so he needs to be. What do you think his transfer value is?

Um, yes. He is good. He would hang in the EPL. He is the best player (arguably) in MLS so the front office would put a high price tag (transfer fee) on him...he's one of the poster boys of the league.

First things first, I am not a huge landon fan. Mainly how his natural style right down to how he passes the ball. It doesn't look natural to me for some reason. I wish him all the best and hope he does well, but americans have less of an understanding of just what kind of talent it takes to play for European teams and be a large success. Look at Rossi, born in new Jersey and plays for Italy. That's a guy you want on your squad. I do however have respect for his ability to create. He is a very active player and likes to roam and be involved. My downfall with him is that most of his international goals have come from PK's and that is seriously a nice padding to the stats, especially at 120 international caps. Take away the fifteen or so PK's he has scored and now you're looking at a player who is average in that category. His touch can be a bit off and his finishing has gotten better, but not alot of dazzling goals in his career. Lots of short range tap ins. And yes I know a goal is a goal is a goal, but being able to finish from different scenarios is a major asset and he has lacked that over the years. Excluding this years top MLS goal ( and that still looks like it deflected ), there aren't too many that stick out as quality finishes. Also these goals he scores in MLS are against second / third tier defenses. EPL is going to be a real challenge and I strongly believe he will be back in the MLS or playing for a lower first division team in Europe next year. There is a reason he hasn't made it to the highest levels of the world, so I hope everyone in the states stop talking about the big clubs calling. They just aren't gonna unless he can make his third euro test a charm. I am also concerned of injuries to the USMNT roster. We have already lost our best creator in Charlie Davies (which I regard as the most talented striker we have). Onyewu is down for awhile and probably not going to crack the lineup at AC Milan to even be fit for the WC. I can see this being a total crisis if LD gets seriously hurt. I want him to succeed though. He has the heart of a lion and that means alot.

yup, it's a gamble going over there just before the world cup. i wouldn't be surprised if the blokes try to take him down to avoid playing against him next summer.
