“This move allows us greater flexibility in terms of our roster and salary budget,” said Chivas USA Head Coach Preki. “We would like to thank Alecko for his contributions to our club. We wish him the best.”
Eskandarian, who will turn 27 next week, is in his seventh Major League Season. The #1 overall selection in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft, 'Esky' played for four years with DC United, helping them to the 2004 MLS Cup by scoring twice in a four-minute span in the final, a performance that earned him MLS Cup MVP honors as well. Spending the 2007 season split between expansion franchise Toronto FC and Real Salt Lake, Eskandarian was brought to Chivas prior to the 2008 regular season in a trade, but was limited to just 18 appearances with the club due to a series of injuries. Despite the limited playing time, he still contributed to the team with five goals and two assists in just 656 minutes in '08, but has again been hampered by injury in 2009.
For his career, Eskandarian has totaled 28 goals and 12 assists in 122 games. He is a two-time MLS All-Star ('04, '06), and scored the game-winning goal for the Eastern Conference in the 2004 version.
Tudela, 25, was selected by the Galaxy as the 20th-overall pick in the '07 MLS SuperDraft. In three seasons with the club, he made 23 appearances (20 starts), adding two assists. He had appeared in eight games for LA this season (all starts).

easily the worst striker in mls - he was a cancer while at real salt lake. question: do you still call them strikers when they don't ever play?
Arena has SERIOUS trust issues. Why else would he release a young player who is rock solid in the midfield and capable of going forward (although Bruce never lets him) for yet another aging player from his past. Is there any wonder he has trouble winning games when he's coaching every aspect of the game so conservatively...
I played alongside Tudela in high school, and he was a better player then than Eskandarian could have ever hoped to be.
