Cooper to 1860 Munich

Kenny Cooper has been sold to Bundesliga II side TSV 1860 Munich. FC Dallas, Cooper’s former club, announced the move to season ticket holders today. There were rumors in previous weeks linking the striker to Bristol City of the English Championship, but this interest tapered off. Following his play in the Gold Cup last month, however, Cooper has secured his return to Europe.

Cooper’s move signals a decision from the FC Dallas front office that the current season is basically lost (something many fans realized early on in the campaign). They will use the money from Cooper’s sale to help rebuild in the offseason in an effort to return to the playoffs.

After beginning his career with Manchester United, Cooper moved to MLS, scoring 40 goals in 93 appearances since 2006. He has also made the most of his time with the USMNT, scoring 4 goals in 9 appearances for the Stars and Stripes.

1860 Munich was once home to Americans Gregg Berhalter and Josh Wolff, and they share Allianz Arena with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. The Lions finished 12th in the Bundesliga II last season and will be looking to return to the top flight for the first time since the 2003-2004 season.

Let's hope that he earns playing time in Germany.
