Montero, 21, scored Seattle's opening goal off a corner kick in the 23rd minute, expertly redirecting a Nate Jaqua header with his own head just in front of goal. It was the Colombian's eighth goal of the season, moving him into a tie for second place in the league with Conor Casey, two behind Guillermo Barros Schelotto.
Three minutes into the second half, Montero would turn provider for Nate Jaqua, combining on a give-and-go with the big guy at the top of the box, slipping a perfect pace into the box for Jaqua to finish. Twenty minutes later, the two would connect again for the Sounders' third and final goal. From the right side of the field, Sebastian Le Toux found Montero with a pass at the top of the area, with Fredy using the slightest of touches to slow the ball down with his back to goal for Jaqua who had been making a run up the left side. As the defense stepped to limit Montero, Jaqua found himself with nothing but space, finishing past Matt Pickens for the second time in the half.
Note: I went back and forth between Jaqua and Montero for this week's award, but ultimately gave it to Montero. It was his unselfishness that created the final two goals; Jaqua just did his job and finished the opportunity (not to take anything away from him, either, I'm just saying).
