Colorado Rapids forward Conor Casey has been named MLS Player of the Week for Week 3 in recognition of his second career MLS hat-trick, scoring all of the Rapids' goals in a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday night. It is the second time that Casey has picked up the weekly award, with the first coming back on Week 27 of the 2008 season, when he recorded his first MLS hat-trick against the New York Red Bulls. With his three-goal effort, the 27-year-old Casey is now tied for the league lead in goals with Seattle Sounders FC's Fredy Montero and Real Salt Lake's Robbie Findley, who also netted a hat-trick in Week 3. Casey finished last season with 11 goals in 21 appearances, tied for sixth-most in Major League Soccer, and has scored 16 total in 41 games since making the leap to MLS from Germany.
The Major League Soccer Player of the Week is selected each week of the MLS regular season by a panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.

bullshit that the league hides behind the reporters. casey and findley both deserve the award. they both pulled off something that every forward dreams of and it's a shame that casey is the only one getting recognized.
