Beckham Adds Two Helpers In Milan Win

David Beckham turned in another shining performance on Sunday, assisting on his team’s first two goals as AC Milan rolled over Lazio by a score of 3-0. The win pushed the Rossoneri past Juventus and into second place in the Serie A standings and cut their deficit to six points with leaders Inter, who struggled to a draw with relegation-battlers Torino earlier on Sunday.

Milan jumped in front three minutes from halftime as Beckham slotted a cross behind the defense to a wide-open Pato, giving the Brazilian an easy side-footed tap-in for the game’s opening goal.

“The finish from Pato was better,” Beckham said after the game. “That’s my job, to put the ball in the right place. Although, the finish was better than the pass.”

Beckham would provide the service for Milan’s second goal, just two minutes after the re-start, bending a trademark free kick in from the right side to find Massimo Ambrosini at the back post, who headed home to double Milan’s advantage.

Despite injury fears heading into the game, Beckham played the full 90 minutes and watched as Kaka added a third Milan goal in game’s dying minutes, cementing an important road victory for the squad as the chase for the Scudetto looks increasingly as if it will be decided between Internazionale, AC Milan and Juventus.

“There are other teams involved too,” said Beckham. “Genoa won today in the last minute. People will always talk about the big three, but there are others involved.”

Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti had praise for the England midfielder following the game, saying, “Beckham is becoming an indispensable player for this team and the merit is all his and of his intelligence.”
