Real Salt Lake head coach Jason Kreis has zeroed in on a potential signing at forward for the club during his current scouting trip to South America, according to the Orlando Sentinal. Kreis was spotted yesterday in Quito, Ecuador, watching 22-year-old Argentine striker Luis Miguel Escalada in action.Escalada is signed with LDU Quito but has been loaned out to Botafogo, Gimnasia de Jujuy and now Newell’s Old Boys within the past 12 months. He started his career with Boca Juniors in 2004-05, but moved on to Club Sport Emelec soon thereafter; as a member of the Ecuadorian side, Escalada scored 29 goals in 40 appearances. He moved to LDU Quito in 2007 and continued his good form by scoring 16 times in 38 appearances, but was sent out on loan in 2008. He has Ecuadorian and Colombian teams chasing after him, but has also stated a willingness to move to Major League Soccer, which could fit into Kreis’ plans nicely.
