The Home Depot Center in Los Angeles has been revealed as the host venue for the 2009 Pan-Pacific Championship; the event is being moved away from Honolulu’s Aloha Stadium in part due to the facility’s poor playing surface. For the second-straight year, the Los Angeles Galaxy have been chosen to represent the United States in the two-day tournament, pitting them against championship-caliber sides Oita Trinita (Japan), Suwon Samsung Bluewings (Korea), and Shandong Luneng Taishan FC (China).
The inaugural championship was won by Japanese side Gamba Osaka over the Houston Dynamo last year, with the Galaxy finishing third out of four teams. Los Angeles originally qualified for the ’08 tournament by finishing as runners-up in the previous year’s Superliga after champions Pachuca declined an invitation to the event. It is not clear how the two-time MLS champions have managed to qualify for this year’s edition.
Pan-Pacific Championship 2009 Schedule (all times PT):

Suwon Samsung Bluewings vs. Shandong Luneng Taishan FC - 5:30 p.m.
Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Oita Trinita - 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, February 21st

California champions.
Hey, seeing this again couldn't be any worse than the first time, when I stayed up to watch it live. Possibly my lowest moment as a soccer fan. But a great story I get to tell nonetheless!
Hey Duane, on goal differential, wouldn't San Jose claim that honor, -6 to -7?
Well at least the few that do decide to watch or attend these games will get to see David Beckham and Landon Donovan instead of just the mediocre supporting cast that surrounds them.
Wait, what? Oh…
