With a new goalkeeper signed on for the 2009 season, the Los Angeles Galaxy have turned their attention to fixing the back-line and are reportedly hoping to acquire long-time Real Madrid defender Ivan Helguera. The one-time teammate of David Beckham recently had his contract with Spanish side Valencia terminated by mutual consent after making just one appearance this season, leaving him in search of a new club.
The Galaxy will have to compete with Beckham’s temporary club, AC Milan, who are also interested in landing the services of the Spanish defender. Romania’s FC Dinamo Bucuresti and an unnamed Premier League club are also reportedly in the chase for the 33-year-old Helguera.
