The US Men’s National Team training camp that has gathered in Carson, CA, ahead of their upcoming friendly against Sweden officially shrank by two on Monday as defenders Clarence Goodson and Cory Gibbs have been scratched from the list.
Goodson, 26, currently played for FC Dallas from 2004-2007 before joining Norwegian side IK Start this past season. He has been capped twice under Bob Bradley, with his first appearance coming in last year’s 2-0 victory over Sweden. He will be unable to take part in the current training camp as he has not sufficiently recovered from offseason ankle surgery.
Gibbs, 28, has made 19 appearances for the USMNT since 2003, but is struggling to get his career back on track after being derailed by a series of injuries over the past few years. He made 21 appearances for the Dallas Burn in 2004 before leaving the league for stints in the Netherlands and England, but returned in 2008 and was snapped up by the Colorado Rapids. No reason was given for Gibbs’ withdrawal.
