Bernardez To Galaxy?

Hoping to bolster a backline that was the most porous in the league in 2008, the Los Angeles Galaxy are in talks to sign Honduran defender Victor Bernardez, according to several league sources.The 26-year-old Bernardez currently plays for CD Motagua in his native country and is captain of the side. He has also earned 35 caps for Honduras since 2004, and has played in all eight 2010 World Cup Qualifiers during their current run to the Hexagonal. Bernardez is trying to help Honduras qualify for the World Cup finals for the first time since 1982 and only the second-time ever. Perhaps he could solidify the Galaxy defense and help them qualify for the playoffs for the first time in four years?

While Los Angeles led the league in goals scored in '08, their defense allowed a franchise-high 62 goals last season, 11 more than the second-worst defense, DC United, which caused them to miss the playoffs for the third-straight year. Though rookie Sean Franklin had a breakout year and landed Rookie of the Year honors for his hard work, the only other consistent figure in the club's backline was veteran Chris Klein, who was playing out of position at right-back.
