The 26-year-old Bernardez currently plays for CD Motagua in his native country and is captain of the side. He has also earned 35 caps for Honduras since 2004, and has played in all eight 2010 World Cup Qualifiers during their current run to the Hexagonal. Bernardez is trying to help Honduras qualify for the World Cup finals for the first time since 1982 and only the second-time ever. Perhaps he could solidify the Galaxy defense and help them qualify for the playoffs for the first time in four years?While Los Angeles led the league in goals scored in '08, their defense allowed a franchise-high 62 goals last season, 11 more than the second-worst defense, DC United, which caused them to miss the playoffs for the third-straight year.
