Having lost suspended defender Jeff Parke to the Seattle Sounders in the expansion draft held earlier in the day, the New York Red Bulls reacquired Mike Petke on Wednesday via the league’s waiver draft after he was waived by the Colorado Rapids.

Petke, 32, appeared in 80 games for the Rapids from 2005-2008 and spent the previous two seasons with DC United, including their MLS Cup-winning campaign in 2004. He started his career with the Red Bulls franchise – then the MetroStars – back in 1998 as the eighth overall selection in the 1998 MLS College Draft. He played five seasons in New York, going on to become the franchise’s all-time leader in games played, games started and minutes played.
In other personnel moves, the Red Bulls waived defender Gabriel Cichero, midfielder Gordon Kljestan, and forward Sainey Touray.
