Moreno Undergoes Surgery

D.C. United midfielder Jaime Moreno has undergone successful knee surgery to clean articular cartilage and remove a meniscal defect, the team announced Wednesday. He is expected to be fully recovered from the operation in time for next year’s pre-season.Moreno, 34, is the all-time leading scorer in MLS history with 122 goals to his credit. In the recently-concluded 2008 season, the Bolivian international recorded 10 goals and 10 assists for the fourth time in his career, matching retired Jason Kreis for the most times to reach the 10+10 mark. No other player in MLS history has reached the milestone more than twice in their career.

Moreno is also one assist shy of the 100 mark in that category; if and when he records an assist next season, he will become only the fifth player to reach the century mark in assists and will be the first-ever to record 100 goals and 100 assists in his career.
