Huckerby Named Player of the Month

Darren Huckerby of the San Jose Earthquakes has been named MLS Player of the Month for September, scoring three goals and adding an assist in the month while helping San Jose to a 1-1-1 record. It is his first time receiving Player of the Month honors.

Huckerby has scored six goals and added four assists in just nine appearances - all starts - with the team losing just once since his arrival, a 3-2 defeat to Real Salt Lake last weekend in which he scored both of San Jose's goals.

Since joining San Jose in July, Huckerby has undoubtedly been one of the league's best talents, helping the Earthquakes go on a 9-game unbeaten streak while lifting the club into the thick of the Western Conference playoff race. With a 7-10-8 record, the 'Quakes are just five points out of the final playoff spot, trying to become the first expansion club in ten years to qualify for the playoffs.

Before joining MLS, Huckerby had stops with Leeds United and Manchester City, among others, but spent the longest amount of time with Norwich City, where he notched 46 goals in 203 appearances for the Canaries.

May - Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Chicago Fire

June - Luciano Emilio, D.C. United

July - Nick Rimando, Real Salt Lake
