Shavar Thomas Added To Jamaica Squad

Chivas USA defender Shavar Thomas has been called up by the Jamaican National Team for a pair of upcoming World Cup Qualifying matches against Mexico and Honduras.Thomas has made 14 appearances for the red-and-white in 2008, playing 1148 minutes this season for the club. He will miss Chivas USA's CONCACAF Champions League match against Panama's Tauro FC on Tuesday, as well as the team's league match at Toronto this weekend.

Jamaica opened their semifinal qualifying round by earning a 1-1 draw with Canada in Toronto on August 20th. Thomas was not part of the team for that game, but will be with them on September 6th when The Reggae Boyz play host to regional superpower Mexico and will then travel to Honduras four days later for their third match of the semifinal round. Jamaica is attempting to make only their 2nd World Cup finals ever, with their first appearance coming in 1998.

Other MLS players called in for the pair of matches include Real Salt Lake midfielder Andy Williams and Toronto FC defender Tyrone Marshall. Colorado Rapids forward Omar Cummings has been dropped from the squad in favor of Stoke City striker Ricardo Fuller.
