The New York Red Bulls will be missing midfielder Jorge Rojas, who has been called up to the Venezuelan National Team for their upcoming matches against Peru (Sept. 6th) and Paraguay (Sept. 9th), meaning he will miss out on New York's game against the Chicago Fire on Saturday. Rojas has amassed 85 caps for La Vinotinto since 1999, scoring three goals over that period. The Red Bulls had to do without Rojas a few weeks ago after he was called up for international friendly but was unable to gain re-entry into the country due to passport issues. According to Red Bulls sporting director Jeff Agoos, Rojas' temporary visa had expired, causing Rojas to miss New York's victory over the Houston Dynamo in late August.
Also called to national team duty is New England Revolution defender Gabriel Badilla. The Costa Rica National team has recalled Badilla for their two-game swing of World Cup Qualifiers against Suriname and Haiti. As a result, he will miss two Revs games, against Columbus (Sept. 6th) and Chivas USA (Sept. 11). However, he will be available for New England's CONCACAF Champions League match against Joe Public FC on Tuesday night.
Badilla has earned 12 caps for Costa Rica and was a member of their squad at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Earlier in his career, Badilla captained Costa Rica's entry at the FIFA U-17 World Championship in 2001. Costa Rica currently sits at the top of Group 3 in CONCACAF qualifying with three points after coming away with a 1-0 victory against El Salvador.
