Morales Signs New RSL Contract

Real Salt Lake announced Wednesday that the club has reached an agreement on a contract extension with Javier Morales, a deal that will keep the Argentinean midfielder in Utah through 2012. As part of the deal, RSL has purchased Morales' contract rights from UD Vecindario, a team in the Spanish Segunda Division B.

Morales, 28, has made 31 appearances since signing with RSL in August of last year, racking up five goals and 12 assists over that period. With ten assists this season alone, he is among the league-leaders in the category, training only Columbus' Guillermo Barros Schelotto.
Prior to his MLS arrival, Morales played for storied Argentinean clubs Lanus, Newell's Old Boys and Arsenal de Sarandi, but his most productive moments on the field have come as a member of Real Salt Lake.

"It was a concerning factor for us going into next year that we could possibly lose him," said RSL coach Jason Kreis. "To have that deal all signed, sealed and delivered is a very good thing for Real Salt Lake.

"We're very happy with Javier," Kreis continued. "We're happy with the work he put in over the offseason. We're happy with how dedicated he's shown himself to be to our club."
