The Columbus Crew continued their recent run of red-hot play, scoring three unanswered goals to dispatch of the New York Red Bulls at Crew Stadium on Thursday night by a score of 3-1. The victory moves Columbus six points clear of 2nd place New England as the 2008 regular season enters its final stages.
Juan Pablo Angel notched his 10th goal of the season on a sensational free kick to open the scoring in the 21st minute, but New York was unable to hold the lead into halftime. Columbus rode goals from Frankie Hejduk, Robbie Rogers and Eddie Gaven to their 14th win of the season, an impressive tally for a club that has failed to make the playoffs every year since 2004.
