Brek Shea Undergoes Surgery

FC Dallas rookie Brek Shea has undergone surgery for a torn medial meniscus in his right knee, the club announced on Thursday, and is expected to be sideline for 3-4 months in recovery.

Shea, 18, was the second-overall pick in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft, but has seen very little playing time in his first MLS season, making two appearances on the year for a scant 17 minutes. The Generation Adidas player has also played in eight of the club's reserve games. The Bryan High School alum was part of the U-17 Men's National Team Residency Program in Bradenton, Fl., and has also seen time with the U-20 national team. Bob Bradley has had his eye on Shea this season, going so far as to call up the youngster for the second leg of the USMNT's World Cup Qualifier against Barbados in June, though Shea did not see any time in that game with the senior squad.
