Trade: Thornton New Starter for Chivas?

With outgoing goalkeeper Brad Guzan's transfer to Aston Villa being finalized on Friday, Chivas USA wasted no time in picking up a veteran goalkeeper to fill his shoes, acquiring Zach Thornton from the New York Red Bulls in exchange for "future considerations".

He is expected to immediately challenge current Chivas goalie Dan Kennedy for the starting spot.

Thornton, 34, has not seen any playing time this season and only played 32 minutes in 2007 for the Colorado Rapids - in which he allowed two goals - before being waived at the end of the year. He spent 1998-2006 with the Chicago Fire, helping the club to win MLS Cup in their first year while also being named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year.
