Toja Transfer Confirmed

FC Dallas confirmed on Friday afternoon that midfielder Juan Toja had successfully completed a transfer to Romanian club FC Steaua Bucuresti.

Toja, 23, has become one of the league's most promising stars since joining the Hoops from legendary Argentinean club River Plate before the start of last season. He was named as an MLS All-Star in both seasons, even recording a goal against Celtic in the 2007 All-Star Game.

"I want to thank FC Dallas for giving me the opportunity to play here, and giving me the opportunity to live my dream of playing in Europe," said Toja. "I am very excited for this opportunity. I want to thank my teammates, and wish them nothing but the best for this year and beyond. I also want to thank all the fans for all of their support."

Toja helped Dallas make the playoffs last season, tallying six goals and one assist in 27 games while being named team MVP. He had two goals and two assists through 16 games this year, but never hid his interest in moving to Europe to become more visible for selection to the Colombian national team.

"We wish Juan all the best in Europe and thank him for his contribution to FC Dallas, on and off the field," said general manager Michael Hitchcock. "Juan is a special player who will have success wherever he plays. That said, we're confident that we have a number of good young players who are ready to step up and fill the shoes that Juan is leaving."

FC Steaua plays in the top division of Romanian football, called Liga I Frutti Fresh... seriously. They have won the league championship more times than any other club, finishing first 23 times and second another 12 times. They are currently involved in the third qualifying round for the 2008/09 Champions League and have drawn Turkey's Galatasaray as their next opponent.
