RSL Pads Western Lead

Toronto FC 1 - Real Salt Lake 2
Real Salt Lake surged four points clear of the rest of the West on Monday night as Robbie Findley netted the tiebreaking goal three minutes from stoppage to lead RSL to a 2-1 victory over Toronto FC in Utah.

Jamison Olave opened the scoring for Real just past an hour, heading home Chris Wingert’s service from the right side after finding himself unmarked at the back post. It was the first career MLS goal for the Colombian defender, coming in his 14th league appearance.

Despite being in control for much of the game, Salt Lake would concede an equalizer in the 84th minute when Olave was whistled for a foul just outside the box. Making the most out of the opportunity, Amado Guevara spun his free kick over the defensive wall and past a diving Nick Rimando to level the score.
Three minutes later, Salt Lake would get the last laugh. Toronto keeper Greg Sutton made many good saves on the night, but would push a Kyle Beckerman shot back into traffic in the middle of the box, where Findley was able to slide and get enough on the ball to beat Sutton, giving RSL a hard-earned victory.

RSL – Jamison Olave 1 (Chris Wingert) 63’
TFC – Amado Guevara 3 (unassisted) 84’
RSL – Robbie Findley 5 (unassisted) 87’

Toronto FC (6-7-4, 22 points) – 5th in East
Real Salt Lake (7-6-6, 27 points) – 1st in West
